Developmental and Copy Editing

Have a completed manuscript but don’t know if it’s “good” or “done” and not sure what comes next?

You need an edit.

What’s not included?

  • A book proposal, if you want to query agents

  • Publishing services, if you want to self-publish

If you’re interested in combining this service with another offering or have questions about publishing, send me a message. We’ll figure out what’s best suited for your needs.

Editing is a crucial step in the writing process that most people hate.

After all, you just spent months and maybe years of your free time, tapping away in a quiet corner, just getting the story down. And while I love English teachers, many of us have PTSD from an English class in high school or college, and yet, here we are, writing.

That’s where I come in.

With this service, I complete a developmental edit and copy edit on your manuscript—I read your manuscript for several things, such as

  • Clarity: Does this make sense?

  • Structure: Is this the best way to present the information?

  • Reader transformation: Does your book do what you want it to do?

  • Support and Focus: Do the stories and examples in the book explain and prove your points?

  • Is there anything we can do better?

It can be scary to ask yourself these questions because it could mean there’s still work to do. It’s also hard to do this objectively when you’ve been so close to the project for so long.

I’ll never throw a wrench in the works unless it needs to be done, but also I’ll be with you the whole time, offering suggested changes and edits so that when you’re holding your book in your hands, you know that it’s as good as it could possibly be, and it does exactly what you want it to do.

After we complete developmental edits, once the content is set, then I’ll go through with an eye for grammar—are the commas in the right place? Are there run-on sentences or passive construction, etc.?

By the time we’re done, you’ll have a polished manuscript that makes you proud and that you can’t wait to publish and show other people.
